IMovie
To edit my music video I used IMovie as I am very familiar with it after using it for my coursework last year. I did have the option to use premier pro but it was far too complicated and there clips were lagging when I put them on there. IMovie was very useful when making the music video as it allowed me to edit all the footage we had. It was very easy to upload my footage to IMovie as I could get it straight off of my SD card onto IMovie. It was then really easy to edit, trim add filters and effects to my footage as everything is laid out easily and isn't hard to use. The only problem was that I could only use it on an apple mac so I couldn't edit in school as they no longer have apple macs. I used iMovie a lot for the editing of the music video. I used the filter tools to put filters on some of the clips that were too bright which was very handy. I also used the ken burns tool quite a lot to get the zooms that would look like an amateur video so it would slowly zoom in towards someone or away from them. I also used the green screen throughout the whole video as we wanted the performance to have a VHS effect on it so the green screen tool was very handy. The ability to adjust and mute the sound on certain clips was really useful as there were quite a few clips that had background noise that I wanted to get rid of.
Camera
To film our video we used a Nikon SLR camera. We chose this camera as they are easy to use, they produce a fairly decent picture quality and there are lots of them we are able to borrow from school. The cameras also fitted to the tripods we borrowed from school which is also very handy. Once we had finished filming on the camera it was very easy to get the footage off as it was all stored on an SD card which we could then take out the camera and put into our computer. We had the option to use our phones to film on but we found that it was too difficult to get them to stay still as they didn't fit any tripods and it was more difficult to get the footage off of them. We used the Nikon for filming both our narrative and performance. The zoom on the camera was useful when filming the performance as we wanted to get the zooms in to get it to look like the amateur video we wanted. We knew that when you zoom it makes the picture more grainy but that didn't matter because we wanted it to look amateur. The auto focus was useful on the performance as it would have been a lot of effort to manually focus with all the camera movement.
